Resource Justice

The transition to electrification, with a focus on secondary batteries, is gaining attention in the transportation and energy sectors as a means to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
In this process, the demand for minerals such as nickel, lithium, and cobalt has surged. However, this growing demand has led to serious environmental and social problems in resource-extracting countries, including large-scale deforestation, biodiversity loss, increased coal use, and violations of indigenous rights.
To address these challenges, we conduct research and make policy recommendations to reduce emissions in the mineral supply chain, prevent indiscriminate mining in Key Biodiversity Areas, and protect the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities.
